Southeast Iowans are getting a crystal clear picture of who will protect their reproductive freedom in Congress.
While voters spoke out this week about Miller-Meeks’ attempts to ban abortion nationwide with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the woman’s life, Christina Bohannan sat down with medical students to discuss her commitment to protecting reproductive freedoms.
Take a look at what Iowa voters are saying and reading this week:
In a roundtable discussion with UI medical students, Bohannan maintained her strong stance on abortion rights and encouraged students to advocate and speak out against misinformation about abortion services…
Bohannan discussed Miller-Meeks co-sponsorship of a bill called the Life at Conception Act which holds that the Constitution protects a right to life at the moment of fertilization.
Bohannan, a law professor and former state representative, pledges to support women’s rights.
Bohannan and Hardy-Fairbanks were clear that advocacy is important, which includes “the ongoing fight against” a bill passed by Republicans and signed by Gov. Kim Reynolds that would outlaw most abortions after six weeks.
“I think that those are things that we need to listen to as policymakers and as government officials, and unfortunately,” Bohannan said. “What we have right now is politicians who are not listening to that science and not listening to the physicians who are actually providing that care, who are seeing these patients day in and day out.”
In May 2021, she co-sponsored Life at Conception Act and has aligned herself with MAGA extremists to chip away at reproductive freedom and enact draconian bans on health care for women – a total abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or to save a woman’s life. Then, on July 21, 2022, Miller-Meeks voted against the Right to Contraception Act, legislation that was designed to safeguard the right to birth control…
This legislative session alone, [Miller-Meeks] has helped to pass four anti-abortion bills. She has also renewed her support for legislation that would include a national abortion ban with no exceptions of rape, incest or the life of the mother. Make no mistake, Miller-Meeks cannot be trusted to consider any exceptions to a complete ban.
