Reps. Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks are back in Iowa this week as Congress adjourns for a district work period. And while they’ve been rubbing shoulders with Washington Republicans, their constituents have had a lot to say on their failure to represent Iowa in D.C.
From Waterloo to North Liberty to Dubuque, Iowans are calling out Hinson and Miller-Meeks for falling in line with the most extreme far-right factions of their party, including those who perpetuate the baseless “Big Lie” that the election was stolen — all while failing to deliver results for small businesses and to boost our economy, leaving Eastern Iowa behind.

Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier: Kent Guild: Ashley Hinson is peddling Trump’s Big Lie
“Anyone who believes the “Big Lie” should not be an elected official at any level of government in the United States. … Hinson has demonstrated that she is not representing the people of the 1st District of Iowa. She appears to be a devotee of Donald Trump, a man spreading the “Big Lie.”
Cedar Rapids Gazette: Chris Rolwes: Hinson should have supported Cheney, not lies
“U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson backed a move this week to remove Rep. Liz Cheney from her leadership role in the House after Cheney called out fellow Republicans for spreading lies about the 2020 presidential election. … This latest action has shown us that Hinson would prefer to sacrifice her integrity and oath to the Constitution in favor of embracing the “Big Lie” and the personality cult of Donald Trump.”
Cedar Rapids Gazette: Jerry Flatt: Ashley Hinson’s vote against Rep. Liz Cheney was wrong
”Iowans know that if we want a government to work for the people, then the people in Washington need to work together. It doesn’t seem like Hinson gets that. She seems more concerned about winning elections than working for her district.”
Iowa City Press-Citizen: Trish Nelson: Miller-Meeks’ scare tactics are nothing new
“Miller-Meeks is using scare tactics to raise money and spread disinformation. That is unacceptable for a representative of the 2nd District of Iowa.”
Iowa City Press-Citizen: Jerry Zinn: Miller-Meeks, you still have time to govern for all Iowans
“You are pandering to the narrow, self-serving goals of those other members of your party who choose to keep alive the big lie that the last presidential election was stolen from Trump. This falsehood is constantly retold in spite of all accounts to the contrary from his own attorney general and state election officials across the nation. … It’s not too late to change. You still could govern for all Iowans. Do you have the courage and good judgement to do so? We are watching and hoping.”
