What Republican Rep. Andy Harris’ Constituents Are Seeing This Week

Digital Ads Highlight the Maryland Republican’s Efforts to Spread Medical Misinformation and Endanger His Own Patients

The DCCC has launched a digital ad buy highlighting Maryland Republican Rep. Andy Harris’ admission that he personally prescribed ivermectin for COVID-19, despite warnings from the FDA, the drug’s manufacturer, and nearly every major medical and health association in the country.

The ad will run on Facebook and will be seen by Harris’ constituents in Maryland’s First District.

Harris has been excoriated for falsely promoting off-label use of ivermectin as a safe treatment for COVID-19 — a claim that has been disputed and strongly opposed by the FDACDCAmerican Medical Association, American Pharmacists Association, and Merck, the drug’s manufacturer, among many other medical and health associations.

In an interview on WBAL, Harris, who is a practicing anesthesiologist, defended personally prescribing ivermectin, saying it was “ridiculous to make any issue” of it and calling it “very safe.”

“As Republican Rep. Andy Harris continues to spread medical misinformation and endanger his own constituents, Marylanders deserve to know just how irresponsible and unfit he is to serve in both his congressional and medical offices,” said DCCC spokesperson Abel Iraola. “While he may feel differently, Andy Harris is not smarter than the CDC, FDA, American Medical Association and nearly every major medical and health organization in the country, all of which have outlined their strong opposition to prescribing ivermectin for treating COVID-19.”
