Yesterday, the DCCC announced P.O.W.E.R. The People, an eight-figure investment to persuade and mobilize AANHPI, Black, and Latino communities as Democrats build their coalition to take back the House.
DCCC Spokesperson José Muñoz:
“The DCCC’s investments to persuade and mobilize voters of color will go a long way towards expanding on the coalition we need to take back the House from MAGA Republicans and continue delivering on the issues that matter to working people. From local organizing, robust paid media, and in-depth research, to voter protection and counter disinformation efforts – Democrats are clear-eyed on the need to reach communities of color in a multitude of ways.”
Take a look at what voters are reading today about the DCCC’s investment to meaningfully engage communities of color:
Democrats are expanding their effort to shore up support among voters of color, whom the party views as essential to its hopes of regaining control of the House.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee says the “historic eight-figure investment” will bolster advertising and mobilization drives to reach Black, Latino and Asian American voters and build upon and broaden an existing project to combat disinformation.
A key element of the new initiative, which the DCCC calls “P.O.W.E.R. — for persuade, organize, welcome, educate and reach — is an expansion of an existing effort to address misinformation. Last cycle, the DCCC launched Juntos Together, a digital hub in English and Spanish to combat what the group calls “dangerous right-wing misinformation.”
The DCCC’s initiative — P.O.W.E.R. (“Persuade. Organize. Welcome. Educate. Reach.”) the People — surpasses the committee’s $30 million investment during the 2022 election cycle. The initiative will focus on research and polling, paid media, organizing, voter protection and education, as well as countering disinformation.
“Democrats are committed to bringing responsible governance back to the House so that we can continue the important work of lowering costs, protecting and expanding health care, and delivering for our constituents,” Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.), the DCCC chair, said in a statement. “We know that voters of color are critical to Democrats’ coalition and the DCCC’s investments highlight our commitment to continuously engaging with communities of color on issues they care about.”
The DCCC, which is tasked with financing and helping Democrats win House elections, has dubbed the effort “Power the People” (with Power standing for persuade, organize, welcome, educate and reach).
The investment and work associated with the program “honors our commitment to the multiethnic coalition that our fragile democracy depends on,” Missayr Boker, DCCC deputy executive director for campaigns, said in a news release. “While extremist Republicans continue to lie, cheat and suppress the vote of people of color in order to win elections, Democrats understand that democracy is strengthened when everyone’s voice is heard.”
“We know how important it is to have ongoing culturally inclusive and resonate outreach with voters of color including in TV, digital, print, mail, and radio, through in-district organizing staff, and informed by in-depth research and polling. P.O.W.E.R. The People builds on the DCCC’s prior cycles of engagement with communities of color to tell the story of how Democrats are delivering for working people, and the danger Republicans pose to our fundamental rights,” said DCCC National Engagement Director Mariafernanda Zacarias.
“Democrats understand the importance of engaging voters of color early and often. In competitive Congressional races across the country, our ability to successfully persuade and mobilize AANHPI voters can be the margin of victory in these contests, which means we can’t take anything for granted,” said Rep. Grace Meng (D-N.Y.), vice chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus.
Underpinning this strategy is the Democrat’s focus on responsible governance, lowering costs, expanding health care, and delivering results that matter to their constituents. The campaign aims to Persuade, Organize, Welcome, Educate, and Reach voters, particularly those of color, which the DCCC Chair Rep. Suzan DelBene notes are crucial to the Democratic coalition. The party’s dedication to engaging with these communities on relevant issues is reflected in the campaign’s extensive investment in research, polling, media, organizing, and voter education, as well as in efforts to combat misinformation.
The DCCC’s campaign will also […] feature ads and outreach in a number of languages, including Hindi, Korean, Mandarin, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Spanish.
“We know how important it is to have ongoing culturally inclusive and resonate outreach with voters of color including in TV, digital, print, mail, and radio,” said DCCC National Engagement Director Mariafernanda Zacarias.
What they’re saying: “The DCCC’s significant, early investment and focused effort to persuade and mobilize people of color will help us win back the majority so we can continue to deliver for the American people,” Rep. Nanette Barragán (D-Calif.) said in a statement to Axios Latino.
The DCCC plans to hire district organizers in key regions to register voters and hold community events. The campaign arm will also use some of this funding to commission polling on which issues these voting blocs care about most and a study on how they’re getting their news and information.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced a $35 million investment today, meant to boost vulnerable House members who have districts with large populations of voters of color. This includes defending names such as Reps. Vicente Gonzalez (D-Texas) and Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.), while trying to unseat Republicans like California’s David Valadao and Michelle Steel.
Una fuente del comité indicó a EFE que la inversión inicial será de 35 millones de dólares en una campaña dirigida a “una parte esencial” de la coalición que los demócratas necesitan para ganar la mayoría en la Cámara de Representantes.
The DCCC is calling the project “P.O.W.E.R. the People” (with Power standing for persuade, organize, welcome, educate and reach). The large sum exceeds the $30 million spent on similar efforts during the 2022 election year.
The initiative has been created in the hopes of mobilizing minority voters in key battleground states ahead of the November general election through funding polls, paid media, in-district organizing, voter protection and an anti-disinformation campaign.
Elements of the campaign will be available in multiple languages including Spanish, Spanglish, English, Hindi, Korean, Mandarin, Tagalog and Vietnamese.
