| New reporting is highlighting how Michigan’s 4th Congressional District is at the center of the House battlefield as momentum keeps building behind Sean McCann.
The “highly regarded nonpartisan” Cook Political Report just shifted this race to Toss-Up, Sean raised a whopping $1.8 million in Q3, and “outside groups have spent over $13 million on the contest so far” – not including “new support from C.L.F.” dumping in cash to try to save Huizenga – making Michigan’s 4th district one of the most expensive races in the country.
What they’re saying about McCann-mentum:
- Politico: “In Michigan, the party has a host of problems in battleground districts, but now feels that once-safer seat Republicans — like Bill Huizenga, who Johnson campaigned with Wednesday…are in jeopardy.”
- New York Times: “The concern is showing in unlikely places. Representative Bill Huizenga, a Western Michigan Republican whose four House victories were all by comfortable margins, is in “the fight of his life” against a well-funded centrist Democrat from Kalamazoo named Sean McCann, said Rob Pocock, a retired Republican political consultant who has worked on campaigns in the region.”
- New York Times: “Other Republicans set to receive new support from C.L.F. include…Representative Bill Huizenga of Michigan.”
- Detroit News: “‘I think it’s going to be close,’ said Jason Watts, a Republican campaign consultant who lives in the region. ‘A lot of people are concerned about the economy.’ […] But Huizenga has remained steadfast in his support of the president.”
- Detroit News: “McCann’s campaign announced last week that it raised a record $1.8 million in the third quarter, more than any previous Democratic opponent of Huizenga’s in an entire election cycle.”
- Punchbowl: “The Huizenga race is an R+3 district, but Republicans have become increasingly concerned about his campaign.”
DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“Bill Huizenga has spent a decade and a half in Washington enriching himself while raising prices for regular families. Republicans are spending record cash here to try to save his skin – but as voters learn about Huizenga’s record, it becomes clearer and clearer that Michiganders are ready for change and will elect Sean McCann to fight for them.” |
