What They’re Saying: DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene Ratified by House Democratic Caucus

Today, the House Democratic Caucus ratified Congresswoman Suzan DelBene to serve as the new Chairwoman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for the critical 2024 cycle. A battle tested leader, DCCC Chair DelBene brings a sharp political instinct, proven fundraising ability, and serious operational experience to the Committee as Democrats go on offense to reclaim the House majority and get back to work for American families.

Read more below to see what people are saying about the DCCC Chair:

  • Leader Hakeem Jeffries: “Suzan is a battle-tested, former Frontline member who brings to the DCCC role a sharp political instinct, proven fundraising ability as well as serious management and operational experience inside and outside government. In the last decade, Rep. DelBene won a tough seat as a Red-to-Blue candidate, held a tough seat as a Frontline candidate and then put that tough seat out of reach. Suzan has also recently served in key DCCC leadership roles, including as Finance Co-Chair in 2018 when we successfully reclaimed the House Majority and Frontline Co-Chair in 2020 when we successfully defended it.”

  • Outgoing DCCC Chair Sean Patrick Maloney: “Suzan DelBene is a former Frontliner and she has the experience, knowledge, work ethic and fortitude to hold MAGA Republicans’ narrow majority accountable, and flip the House back to Democratic control in two short years. As House Democrats look to build upon our historic results we delivered in the 2022 elections, we can rest assured that our party is in good hands under the leadership of President Biden, incoming Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and newly-nominated DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene.”

  • EMILY’s List President Laphonza Butler: “A frontline member and fearless champion of women and reproductive freedom who understands we must hit the ground running next cycle to continue protecting our rights, Rep. DelBene is the woman for the job.”

  • Washington State Democratic Party Chair Tina Podlodowski: “Washington Democrats could not be prouder to have our own Congresswoman Suzan DelBene at the helm of the DCCC. Congresswoman DelBene has shown leadership as the very capable representative of Washington’s 1st district, and now she’ll take that wisdom to the nation and efforts on behalf of all Democrats.Congresswoman DelBene exemplifies what Washington Democrats have been able to accomplish across the state through grassroots organizing by flipping a once-Republican district then making it solidly blue.

  • The Hill: “Not insignificantly, DelBene is also a prolific fundraiser, who hauled in more than $2.5 million this cycle. She’s already vowing to help Democrats return to power two years from now.”

  • MyNorthwest: “Washington Democrats congratulate Rep. Suzan DelBene”

  • Seattle Times: “In 2012… she won two elections simultaneously, against the same opponent: A special election to fill the remainder of Rep. Jay Inslee’s term, after Inslee stepped down to focus on his campaign for governor, and a regular election for a new two-year term. DelBene won that race by about 8 percentage points, after both national parties had targeted the open seat. She has since been reelected five times, never by less than 10 or so points, with her margins mostly growing larger as the years have gone by.”

  • Axios: “[DelBene] previously served as the DCCC’s finance co-chair in 2018 – when Democrats’ fundraising dominance was a decisive factor in their landslide victory – and its frontline co-chair in 2020.”

  • UPI: “The incoming House minority leader pointed to DelBene’s recent successes in reclaiming the House majority in 2018 as the DCCC finance co-chair, and then her ability to help maintain it in 2020 when she was the Frontline co-chair, as proof of her capabilities.”

  • Northwest Progressive Institute: “DelBene, who has a reputation as pragmatic and effective lawmaker and strategist, will now assume the important, weighty responsibility of crafting and implementing a strategy for reclaiming the House majority in 2024. Jeffries couldn’t have picked anyone better for the role if you ask me. Our team has worked with DelBene for years; she regularly speaks at NPI’s events and supports our research and advocacy. A determined advocate for policies our country needs, like the Child Tax Credit, she has served on the Ways & Means Committee since before Democrats won their last majority in 2018. DelBene is thoughtful, approachable, exercises good judgment, and has a track record of getting results. If anyone can build a better DCCC, it’s Suzan.”
