WHAT THEY’RE SAYING: Kean Jr. “Blasted” for Voting to Cut Medicaid, Remaining “Noticeably Silent” Throughout 24 Hour Hearing

NJ PBS and NJ.com skewer Kean Jr. for voting to rip health insurance away from his NJ-07 constituents and failing to speak up on their behalf

New Jersey residents are reading and watching blistering coverage skewering Tom Kean Jr. after he voted to advance massive cuts to Medicaid – and remained dead silent in the committee room for more than 24 hours before casting his decisive vote.

During the hearing, Kean Jr.’s colleagues shared the story of a NJ-07 resident named Sasha with cerebral palsy who relies on Medicaid to receive lifesaving care. Congresswoman Nanette Barragán asked, “Who here is standing up for Sasha?” Kean Jr.’s response? Crickets.

Reminder: Roughly 2 million people across the Garden State, including 73,000 people in NJ-07, rely on Medicaid for health care coverage.

PBS NJ: Kean Jr. “was noticeably silent throughout the more than 24 hour hearing, even after promising his district he wouldn’t cut Medicaid.”

NJ.com: “U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr.‘s committee vote Wednesday to make significant cuts to the Medicaid program sparked an angry response far and wide…”

DCCC Spokesperson Eli Cousin:
“After lying for months that he would not vote to cut Medicaid, Kean Jr. doesn’t even have the courage to speak up for his constituents who fear they will lose the health insurance they depend on because of his callous vote. If Kean Jr. won’t fight to protect his constituent’s health care, he doesn’t deserve to represent them in Congress.”
