| Tom Kean Jr. is once again facing a wave of brutal press coverage as he “stiff-arms” the media and “ducks” accountability for his record.
While Kean Jr. has a long track record of refusing to show up and answer for his actions, both national and local news outlets report that this time his strategy “appears to be backfiring.”

His reticence, amplified by the absence, has given Democrats who had long complained about Kean’s lack of in-person town halls and minimal debates a potential messaging breakthrough in one of a handful of races that will decide the House majority.
When three reporters walked inside, Isabella Kovar, Kean’s campaign manager, said the event was closed to the press. “It’s just how we decided it,” Kovar said. The campaign had no press events planned, she said, and asked the reporters to leave.
The barring of media came after Kean posted on Facebook on Saturday: “I do the most local press engagements of any NJ Member of Congress…”
Three reporters ventured into party headquarters at the 6 p.m. starting time and were told the rally was off limits to the press. Kean was already on the premises.
In a flash, U.S. Rep. Thomas Kean Jr. departed the Hunterdon Republican Party headquarters on Monday night, Aug. 24. He zipped by with the hurried, don’t-bother-me pace usually adopted by celebrities dodging paparazzi or defendants leaving a courtroom.
He had nothing to say to three reporters on the scene, other than “Have a good night.” He stepped into his sedan with an aide and sped away.
