#WhereIsMonica: Republican Primary in TX-15 Gets Messy

Republican candidates in TX-15 slam Monica De La Cruz as “establishment” and “unapproachable”

Texans start voting early today, and NRCC “Young Gun” Monica De La Cruz is feeling the pressure as she fights off attacks from the right in an increasingly messy — and expensive — Republican primary.

Republican candidate Mauro Garza is up on TV with a new ad slamming Monica De La Cruz for having “failed at everything she’s done,” accusing her of delinquent tax payments and unpaid loans. “The last thing we need in Congress is another failure,” the 30-second spot says, “because failure is not an option.” Ouch!

Garza also took to Facebook this week to charge Monica De La Cruz with “abandoning the people of District 15,” musing “#whereisMonica” and describing her as “unapproachable.”

But Mauro Garza isn’t the only Republican candidate throwing punches. At a Republican forum last week, Wilson County Justice of the Peace Sara Canady slammed De La Cruz for being “selected by the establishment” [3:33:35]:

“I am the most qualified candidate for this position. If you want a ra-ra cheerleader girl for this position, you know who to vote for. It’s a woman who voted Democrat many times, she’s been selected by the establishment as a Young Gun […] and she will kowtow to the establishment. I don’t know that she has, or any of the other people have, what is necessary.”

As Monica De La Cruz fends off attacks from the right and a barrage of bad headlines for her alleged “cruel and aggressive” mistreatment of her stepdaughter, she’s in for her toughest election fight yet.

“It may be Valentine’s Day, but there’s no love lost between the Republican candidates in this messy primary,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson.
