While Chaotic, Sweeping Tariffs Endanger Alaska’s Permanent Fund, Nick Begich Refuses to Stand Up For Alaskans

Alaska’s Permanent Fund, which pays for the state’s PFD checks that everyday Alaskans count on to make ends meet, suffered multi-billion dollar declines earlier this week because of the chaos triggered by Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs.

Instead of standing up for Alaskan families and fighting to protect the strength of the Permanent Fund, Nick Begich voted to prevent Congress from using its oversight authority over Trump’s sweeping tariffs after Republican leadership in Congress strongarmed vulnerable Republicans to support it.

REMINDER: Trump’s sweeping tariffs are not only threatening Alaska’s Permanent Fund, but they will jack up costs by thousands of dollars per year for working families.

By bending the knee to his D.C. bosses, Begich is risking cutting the dividend, which belongs to everyday Alaskans.

DCCC Spokesperson Viet Shelton:
“Nick Begich is turning his back on Alaskans and siding with far-right extremists – even if that means risking the Permanent Fund Dividend. These chaotic, sweeping tariffs are a tax that will raise prices on the middle class and his refusal to speak out against the damage they are causing is the latest example that Nick Begich doesn’t work for the people that elected him, but rather his party bosses in D.C.”
