“Whining and Bed-wetting:” What David Schweikert Really Thinks About Arizonans Upset About Losing Their Health Care

New video shows Schweikert dismissing 12,600 of his own constituents getting kicked off their health care, calling for cuts to Medicare

David Schweikert isn’t holding back how he feels about the more than 194,000 Arizonans projected to lose Medicaid coverage to pay for billionaire tax cuts:

Think of the whining and the bed-wetting over the Medicaid changes,” Schweikert said while discussing his Big, Ugly Law.

In the same breath, Schweikert called for cuts to Medicare – a program that nearly 1.5 million Arizonans rely on.

“A lot of these people I see on Fox… talk about ‘we need to be tough, we need to cut spending,’ [but] when they were given real spending fixes… they all run away from it because one… actually has the word Medicare in it. But you’ve got to go there,” Schweikert continued.

Reminder on the impacts of Schweikert’s bill:

  • Roughly 1 in 5 Arizonans in Schweikert’s district depend on Medicaid – 12,601 of whom are expected to lose coverage under the Big, Ugly Law.
  • The Arizona Hospital and Health Care Association is warning that the Big, Ugly Law will force more than 55% of all AZ hospitals to operate in the red, which could lead to restricted services “at best” and “at worst” hospital closures across the state.
  • Arizona would be the 9th hardest hit state in overall health care spending cuts in the Big, Ugly Law. The state is projected to lose a staggering $33.1 billion.

DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly:
“David Schweikert voted to kick 194,000 Arizonans off their health care, take a sledgehammer to Arizona’s economy, and jeopardize health care jobs in his district – all so that billionaires could get a tax break. That’s a disqualifying agenda to Arizona voters.”
