“White House Senses Political Risk on Healthcare Despite Shutdown Bravado” [WSJ]

Republicans are losing the American people and running scared.

An onslaught of polling shows that Democrats’ message of saving health care is breaking through – and that the public is turning on Republicans for their health care crisis. New reporting from the Wall Street Journal reveals that the White House “is increasingly concerned that the issue at the center of the debate will create political vulnerabilities for Republicans.”

The Wall Street Journal reports“Advisers are worried that the GOP will take the blame for allowing healthcare subsidies to expire, raising costs for millions of Americans ahead of next year’s midterm elections, according to administration officials.”

New polling today from KFF finds 78% of respondents think Congress should extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits, including 82% of Independent voters and 59% of Republican voters. This follows months of research from Trump’s own pollsters.

What’s more, the Journal story highlights how much harm Republicans are harming their own communities:

“Ending the subsidies would result in higher premiums for more than 20 million people. Of the 75 congressional districts where at least 10% of the population is enrolled in the Affordable Care Act, 62 are in red-leaning Florida, Georgia and Texas, according to Kaiser Family Foundation, a healthcare-policy think tank. More than half of the 62 districts in those states are represented by Republicans.”

Yet House Republicans refuse to address the health care crisis they created — choosing instead to take vacations, attend private fundraisers at fancy D.C. steakhouses, and shut the government down.

DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“The American people know that only Democrats are fighting to lower costs, save their health care, and help working families struggling with rising prices. Now, the White House is starting to realize it too, but Donald Trump, JD Vance, and Mike Johnson are too beholden to their extreme base to do anything about it.”
