White Working-Class Voters Are Abandoning Trump, Spelling Trouble for Republicans in November

After months of rising costs and broken promises, Trump’s approval among white working-class voters is plunging. The cratering support is a major alarm bell for House Republicans as more and more voters are poised to reject them in the midterms.

In a recent poll, 54% of white voters without a college degree said they disapprove of Trump, which is a staggering 22-points higher than when he was inaugurated.

The drop-off in white working-class support could be consequential for the GOP in midterm battleground states like Ohio, where Democrats are competing with strong working-class candidates in districts that Trump won in 2024 as Republicans’ broken promises on lowering costs, protecting manufacturing jobs, and gas prices are crushing Ohio families.

From the Washington Post:

“Austin Keyser, a leader with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers who lives in Ohio, said other union officials tell him about meetings where members say they regret voting for Trump, frustrated by high prices or setbacks to projects they are working on.”

DCCC Spokesperson Liam Buckley:
“Trump and House Republicans abandoned white working-class voters with exorbitant price hikes, health care cuts, and corruption — it’s no surprise voters are abandoning them in turn. While Democrats are expanding their coalition across the battlefield, the GOP are hemorrhaging voters they can’t afford to lose. Republicans’ broken promises will be their downfall in November.”
