McCormick silent as all eight Georgia Republicans in Congress refused to denounce the anti-Asian violence of the Atlanta spa shooting
Every single Georgia Republican in Congress voted against H.Res. 275, a resolution to condemn the Atlanta spa shooting that took the lives of eight people, including six Asian American women in Georgia. Voters deserve to know: Does Republican Rich McCormick stand with his party in refusing to denounce this violence, or does he stand with Asian American communities in Georgia’s 7th Congressional District?
Rich McCormick, failed perennial candidate in GA-07, refused to concede his loss in November and never took a break from his error-plagued campaign to represent one of the most diverse districts in the country. Gwinnett County in Georgia’s 7th has the largest AAPI population in the state, and 2 of 5 Asian Americans in GA-07 were first time voters in 2020. Now, Rich thinks he deserves a second shot — but his failure to stand up to his fellow Georgia Republicans after they refused to condemn the horrific Atlanta spa shooting speaks volumes about his priorities.
Georgians deserve to know: Does Rich McCormick stand with his fellow Republicans, or with Asian American communities whose support he needs to win?
“Rich McCormick belongs to the same Georgia Republican Party that just unanimously refused to denounce violence against Asian Americans that took the lives of eight people in his own state,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “Georgia’s 7th Congressional District is one of the most diverse in the country, and Rich’s silence in the face of anti-Asian violence is deafening. Rich needs to tell voters: Does he side with his fellow Republicans, or does he stand with Asian Americans in Georgia?”
