Why Did Bo Hines Refuse to Debate?

After weeks of bad headlines, Bo Hines is hiding from voters weeks before the election

Less than 20 days from the midterm election, Republican candidate Bo Hines (NC-13) continues to run away from voters as he faces an onslaught of bad press.

As Charlotte Observer reported, Hines refused to debate his opponent, local state senator Wiley Nickel: “Two local news outlets say they reached out to NC-13 candidates for a debate: Democrat Wiley Nickel’s campaign was willing to do it; Republican Bo Hines’s campaign was not.”

It is no surprise that Hines is trying to avoid facing the voters of North Carolina. He’s probably hoping he won’t get asked questions about these recent headlines:

  • A scathing article by Business Insider pointed out that despite griping multiple times that he “can’t afford to give up a month’s salary,” Hines does not have a salary and doesn’t have a job – just a six-figure income from a family trust fund.

  • Hines was factchecked multiple times for blatantly lying about his opponent’s position on abortion to distract from his own extreme views.

  • North Carolina Republicans have all but given up on Hines, and they have already found a new candidate filing to run for the district in 2024 – highlighting their lack of confidence in Hines.

  • Hines was dragged by his alma mater, NC State, for abandoning the Wolfpack for an Ivy League school that better served his aspirations for political power.

  • Hines was called out for touting his North Carolina values in a TV commercial… filmed in Indiana.

“Bo Hines is hiding from North Carolina voters because he has no excuse for the laundry list of evidence that he is too out of touch to represent this community in Congress,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “Hines has shown his only loyalty is to Trump and special interests, not North Carolina families.”
