Why Is Criminally-Indicted George Santos Still In Congress 23 Indictments Later?

George Santos – the criminally-indicted Republican congressman for New York’s Third Congressional District – now faces twenty-three federal indictments.

The new charges come on the heels of  Nancy Marks – Santos’ former Treasurer – pleading guilty to federal charges late last week. Recent reporting also exposed Santos’ shady campaign finances, again raising questions about how he managed to fund his campaign.

So, you’re probably wondering, how is serial-liar Santos still in Congress? It doesn’t take a long trip down memory lane to remember why.

It’s all due to vulnerable New York Republicans – Nick LaLota, Anthony D’Esposito, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams – caving to MAGA extremism by voting to protect their criminally-indicted colleague instead of expelling him.

DCCC Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty:
“George Santos is a sitting member of Congress with twenty-three federal charges because spineless New York Republicans Nick LaLota, Anthony D’Esposito, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams voted to protect him. Families across New York’s Third Congressional District are the victims of New York Republicans’ cowardice.”
