After Will Hurd Denies Mistreatment of Kids in His District, Shocking NYT Report Contradicts Him

“Outbreaks of scabies, shingles and chickenpox were spreading among the hundreds of children who were being held in cramped cells, agents said”

Last week: “Hurd disputes allegations from lawyers describing unsanitary conditions and said he’s seen no mistreatment”

Will Hurd owes you an explanation.

Over the weekend, a gut-wrenching new report from New York Times and El Paso Times journalists uncovered shocking new details on the horrific conditions migrant children faced inside the detention facility in Congressman Hurd’s district – conditions Hurd himself denied after touring the facility and did nothing about.

Firsthand accounts from the Border Patrol agents working inside the facility describe what they witnessed in the harshest possible terms:

Outbreaks of scabies, shingles and chickenpox were spreading among the hundreds of children who were being held in cramped cells, agents said. The stench of the children’s dirty clothing was so strong it spread to the agents’ own clothing – people in town would scrunch their noses when they left work. The children cried constantly. One girl seemed likely enough to try and kill herself that the agents made her sleep on a cot in front of them, so they could watch her as they were processing new arrivals.”

All told, the report paints a picture bleak enough to turn your stomach and boil your blood – and it all happened in Congressman Hurd’s district. On his watch.

But Hurd denied the horrific conditions, disputing reports of unsanitary facilities and saying he’s seen no mistreatment.

“Hurd disputes allegations made from lawyers describing unsanitary conditions and said he’s seen no mistreatment. ‘My understanding is that the lawyers did not see the facilities the way the media was able to see it,’ Hurd said.”

Will Hurd has famously pledged his vote to Donald Trump next year and votes with Trump 95 percent of the time. Apparently he’s pledged his silence, too.

Either Will Hurd got it wrong, or he lied – and he owes you an explanation.

“Will Hurd could have done something – instead he looked the other way while hundreds of children were packed into diseased cages and forced to survive in horrific, unsanitary conditions,” DCCC Spokesperson Avery Jaffe said. “It’s clear now that Congressman Hurd’s ‘tour’ of the detention facility was a political stunt and a sham. The Border Patrol agents who work there are describing inhumane conditions and Hurd needs to tell the truth about why he disputed the allegations of mistreatment at Clint.”
