Will Mazi Melesa Pilip Ring In the New Year By Being Honest with Voters?

From ducking debates to declining to answer key questions, Pilip is doing the bare minimum to try to represent New York’s Third Congressional District

It’s customary to ring in the New Year with a clean slate – except if you’re Mazi Melesa Pilip, who has already made a name for herself by not being honest with voters.

Pilip continues to refuse to answer simple questions on key issues, including:

  • If Pilip voted for Donald Trump in the 2020 election or if she supports Trump in the Republican primary for president.

    • “Pilip… declined to commit to backing former President Donald Trump in next year’s GOP presidential primary.” [Newsday]

    • “Asked directly if she voted for Trump, she replied: ‘It’s a personal question.’” [Newsday]

  • If Pilip supports banning assault weapons.

    • “Pilip also did not directly answer whether she’d support a federal assault weapons ban.” [Newsday]

  • If Pilip supports the far-right platform she’s running on to ban abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest.

    • “When Ms. Pilip was asked to state her position on a national abortion ban, a spokesman for the Nassau County Republican Party cut in to say that the candidate did not intend to ‘get through the whole platform here.’” [New York Times]

To make matters worse, Pilip has agreed to participate in only one debate – that excludes Queens voters – only 5 days before the special election and 5 days after early voting begins.

DCCC Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty:
“Mazi Melesa Pilip needs to make it her New Year’s resolution to come clean to voters or else it begs the question: what is Pilip trying to hide?”
