Will Mike Johnson Continue Backing Tony Gonzales?

The NRCC supported Gonzales with nearly half a million dollars – and still lost
After coming in second place last night to Brandon Herrera, the so-called “AK Guy,” Tony Gonzales is stuck in a run-off that is turning into a MAGA food fight.

In the lead up to the primary, the NRCC gave Gonzales nearly a half million dollars, despite increased scrutiny and calls to resign following the release of explicit texts showing an inappropriate relationship with a deceased staffer.

Despite the scandal, neither Donald Trump nor Mike Johnson pulled their endorsements.

Gonzales has said he will NOT resign from Congress, despite calls from his own colleagues. Mike Johnson, on the other hand, has continued to have his member’s back despite the horrendous accusations.

NRCC Chair Richard Hudson has declined to say if Gonzales should resign, acknowledging that “the AK Guy” is a general election liability given his disgusting history of antisemitic tropes and warmness to Nazi imagery.

“Deputy Speaker Mike Johnson and the NRCC are protecting an alleged sex offender and throwing away the House majority in the process.”
