The post is the latest example of the GOP club’s disturbing pattern of extremist rhetoric and bigotry. In December, the far-right group invited Markus Frohnmaier, a far-right German politician and leader in the extremist AfD party, to their annual gala.
Months earlier, a bombshell investigation revealed that Mike Lawler’s friends and political allies, Bobby Walker and Peter Giunta, played prominent roles in a vile GOP group chat where leaders of the state party called rape “epic,” fantasized about putting their opponents in gas chambers, used countless racist slurs, and joked about their love of Hitler.
Lawler was even endorsed by the New York Young Republican Club in 2022. Yet, he has repeatedly refused to take a stand and denounce the dangerous extremism in his own political circles.
The question is simple: Will blackface wearing Lawler strongly condemn the New York Young Republican Club and their racist, anti-Muslim post – or stay silent once again?
New Yorkers deserve an answer.
