Republican congressional hopeful still refuses to denounce Skelos, shows he is cut from same cloth
As former New York Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos and his son, Adam, face sentences for their abuse of power, their ally State Senator Jack Martins continues to stand by their side.
Recently, Martins has come under fire for his ties to Skelos and remaining “one of Skelos’s most vocal supporters” even after Skelos’s corruption came to light. Here are a couple more examples of Martins’s steadfast loyalty:
- While presiding over the State Senate, he refused to greenlight efforts to strip Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos of his position in the Senate leadership after his arrest on federal corruption charges.
- Martins co-signed a statement with other lawmakers arguing that Skelos should remain in power, despite his corruption trial.
So as today’s sentencing drives the news, Long Island voters deserve to know whether Skelos Apologist Jack Martins will finally stand up to crooked politicians or continue to defend them.
“As Senator Skelos and his son face justice for their abuse of power, Long Island voters deserve to know whether State Senator Jack Martins – who is running for Congress – will finally stand up to corruption and denounce Skelos or continue to defend him,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “It’s clear that voters want a change in the way business is done in Washington, and if Skelos Apologist Jack Martins can’t even stand up to crooked politicians in Albany who enrich themselves then it’s clear he is cut from the same cloth.”
