With Michigan Set to Make Abortion a Felony Immediately after SCOTUS ruling, Peter Meijer Still Won’t Say a Word to Protect Women

Meijer “did not directly answer questions” on if Michiganders should have the freedom to make their own reproductive health care decisions

Michigan Radio reports that following a leaked Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Peter Meijer is refusing to say whether he supports Michigan’s extreme 1931 law which would take effect making abortion a felony. He also wouldn’t answer if he supports exceptions for bans on abortions in cases of rape, incest, or if the mother’s life is a risk.

While Meijer has said it’s too soon to comment on what would happen if Roe v. Wade is overturned, he did not think it was too premature to weigh in last year, and call on the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Meijer also has yet say whether he stands with Washington GOP leaders to support a nationwide ban on abortion as Republicans plot charging women with homicide and imposing a 6-week national ban on abortion.

And it’s no surprise why Meijer, who has previously said he’s “100% pro-life,” won’t be honest on whether he supports a draconian law to take Michiganders’ freedoms away – he knows he’s stuck between a rock and hard place with a nasty primary against John Gibbs who says he’s “100% pro-life in all cases,” and a “newly competitive district” with West Michigan trending away from him.

“Peter Meijer must tell voters if he stands with his party leaders in making it a felony for West Michiganders to make their own reproductive health care decisions,” said DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn.
