New Texas seats add to DCCC’s expanded 51-district offensive battlefield
Today, the DCCC announced the addition of four new districts to its offensive battlefield, including three new Texas targets: TX-03, TX-06 and TX-25. These latest additions bring the DCCC’s offensive target list to 51 districts.
“Democrats are on offense across Texas, campaigning on access to quality, affordable health care and protections for those with pre-existing conditions,” DCCC spokesman Avery Jaffe said. “That consistent message and our 16-month long investment in Texas have put fast-changing districts like these ones in play and Democratic candidates in strong position to deliver in November.”
District by District:
TX-03 (TAYLOR):
Described by the Cook Political Report as “a suburban melting pot and a ticking time bomb for the GOP,” this North Texas district touts the highest number of college graduates of any seat currently represented by a Republican: 53.9% of the district. Additionally, the district has sizeable and growing communities of color: 10.1% Hispanic, 10.1% Black, 11.1% AAPI. Obama won just 34.7% of the major party vote in 2012, while Clinton earned 42.6% in 2016 and Beto O’Rourke came within 3 points of winning the seat in 2018. Recent polling found a single-digit race between Democrat Lulu Seikaly and Congressman Van Taylor while Biden leads Trump by 2 points.
TX-06 (WRIGHT):
A fast-changing North Texas district represented by one of the worst fundraisers in the GOP, Texas’ 6th Congressional District is getting younger and more diverse by the minute and will see historic numbers of voters of color and young people heading to the polls in November with presidential-level turnout. The district has a sizeable Black (20.1%) and Hispanic (17.3%) population and Democrat Stephen Daniel has repeatedly outraised incumbent Congressman Ron Wright since entering the race. Recent polling found a statistically-tied race between Daniel and Wright and also in the presidential contest.
TX-25 (WILLIAMS):
A heavily gerrymandered district stretching from the city of Austin to southern Tarrant County, Texas’ 25th Congressional District emerged in 2018 with a formidable Democratic challenger in Julie Oliver who gave Congressman Roger Williams his closest race in recent memory. The district is 32.5% suburban and college graduates comprise a sizeable 37.9% of the district. Recent polling found a statistically-tied race between Williams and Oliver and also in the presidential contest.
