John Kline: retiring Congressman, amateur psychic? Months ago, Kline dubbed the GOP field running for his vacated seat “disappointing,” foreshadowing lackluster fundraising numbers that emerged this week among the Republicans’ fractious field.
Darlene Miller, the D.C. Republican establishment’s preferred candidate despite having misled voters about receiving federal stimulus dollars, raised less than half that of DFL nominee Angie Craig. As today’s Pioneer Press puts it:
“But Democratic candidate Angie Craig has the field, and $411,000, all to herself. Meanwhile, about that same amount is split between four Republican candidates in a nomination process likely to last until August.”
And then there’s this:
“Her campaign war chest of $1.3 million is bigger than all the Republican candidates’ put together.”
“Every day it becomes clearer why John Kline said the GOP field running for his seat doesn’t ‘inspire confidence.’ This week’s meek fundraising reports highlight that whichever of the ‘disappointing’ candidates emerges from this tough primary will do so with little money and much worse for wear,” said Sacha Haworth of the DCCC. “While the GOP primary unfolds, Angie Craig is continuing to run a strong campaign that will have the resources to win this fall.”
