Congressman Mica has twice voted against Violence Against Women Act, supports legalizing marital rape
As other Republican elected officials scramble to at least create the appearance of distance between themselves and Donald Trump after his disgusting and reprehensible comments about women became public, 1950’s Congressman John Mica has said nothing. Of course, Trump has said dozens of disqualifying things, so it is long past too late for Mica to separate himself from Trump in the eyes of voters, when he has been an enthusiastic Trump supporter for months.
Beyond the fact that Mica has stood by Trump this entire campaign even though Trump is clearly unfit to be president, it’s perhaps not surprising that Mica hasn’t even lifted a finger to manage a weaksauce statement of denouncement of these newly revealed offensive comments about women.
What could Mica possibly say about these Trump revelations when Mica himself supports legalizing marital rape?
What could Mica possibly say about Trump’s bragging about sexual assault, when Mica has TWICE voted against the Violence Against Women Act in Congress?
“John Mica can’t even muster his own mealy-mouthed condemnation of Donald Trump’s newly-revealed comments because of his own decades-long anti-women record,” said Christie Stephenson of the DCCC. “Mica supports legalizing marital rape and repeatedly voted against funding programs to help victims of sexual assault – like the kind Donald Trump is bragging about. Mica’s silence in the wake of these revelations is both telling and damning, as is his enthusiastic support for Donald Trump.”
