In His Own Words: On Taxes, Rod Blum Would Cut Taxes for Millionaires Like Himself

As Rod Blum tries to rewrite history and run away from the positions for which he advocated for years as a newspaper columnist, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is holding him accountable for his reckless and out-of-touch agenda by highlighting Rod Blum’s own words.

Today’s example: As a newspaper columnist, Rod Blum wrote about his strong support for George W. Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy, including for millionaires like himself.

“Rod Blum made it clear that his economic policy is to cut taxes for millionaires like himself,” said Brandon Lorenz of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Rod Blum’s willingness to defend tax cuts for the wealthy is consistent with his history of taking a massive bonus after laying off Iowa workers. Rod Blum will be rejected in November when voters learn how he’s gotten ahead at the expense of everyday middle class Iowans.”

BACKGROUND:

Blum Defended Bush Tax Cuts for the Rich. In 2006, Blum defended President Bush’s tax cuts for the rich writing, “Liberal politicians have attacked President Bush’s 2007 budget proposal and his tax cuts for the ‘rich’ in a unified chorus that would make the Harlem Boys Choir envious. Those tax cuts put more money into the private economy, which in turn creates more jobs for the poor. These attacks prove once again that liberals will trample over a thousand poor people to throw a rock at one rich man.” [Telegraph Herald, 3/05/06]
