WESA: “A new investigative report has confirmed two Pennsylvania lawmakers with ties to the “Stop the Steal” movement were actively involved in pressuring the U.S. Justice Department to investigate disproven claims of fraud in the 2020 election.”
New York Times: “The report raised fresh questions about what role Representative Scott Perry, Republican of Pennsylvania, played in the White House effort to pressure the Justice Department to help upend the election. Mr. Perry called Mr. Donoghue to pressure him into investigating debunked election fraud allegations that had been made in Pennsylvania {…}Mr. Clark, the report said, also told officials that he had participated in the White House’s efforts at Mr. Perry’s request, and that the lawmaker took him to a meeting at the Oval Office to discuss voter fraud.”
Los Angeles Times: “Trump found another ally in Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.), who has disputed the validity of Biden’s victory in Pennsylvania and called Donoghue in December to say the department wasn’t doing its job with respect to the elections. Perry encouraged Donoghue to elicit Clark’s help because he’s “the kind of guy who could really get in there and do something about this,” the report said.”
NBC News: “Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., for example, introduced Trump to Clark, and Perry “directly communicated with Donoghue about his false Pennsylvania election fraud claims,” it said. Perry led the GOP’s objection to Pennsylvania’s electoral votes for Biden on the House floor on Jan. 6.”
ABC News: “The report additionally details efforts by Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., who led the effort objecting to counting the Pennsylvania’s electoral votes following the Jan. 6 riot, to introduce Jeffrey Clark to Trump and his direct outreach to Rosen’s deputy Donoghue about false allegations of voter fraud in his state.”
VICE: “The report says that Perry repeatedly pushed disproven claims about problems with Pennsylvania’s election system with Donoghue, at Trump’s urging, and complained that the DOJ hadn’t done its job in investigating the election. He followed up with an email making numerous Pennsylvania election fraud claims that had already been disproven, including incorrect claims that 200,000 more people had voted than were registered in the state and that more than 4,000 Pennsylvanians had voted more than once, when the real number was three.”
Washington Post Op-Ed: “The report contains new details based on interviews with former Justice Department officials who witnessed the coup attempt. It tells how Trump allies like Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) and Pennsylvania state Sen. Doug Mastriano were in regular contact with Trump in the days after the election and made their own attempts to pressure department officials.”
