Rodney Davis’s re-election campaign isn’t getting any easier.
The vulnerable Republican was already in trouble after racking up an extreme record in Washington that includes voting against middle-class tax cuts for Illinois families and siding with Capitol insurrectionists over pursuing the truth regarding the deadly January 6th insurrection. Now, Davis’ prospects are looking even grimmer after he received another Democratic challenger in Illinois’ 13th District today.
It’s no wonder that Davis has been considering jumping ship given his out-of-touch record which includes:
-
Getting blasted by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Editorial Board, which suggested that voters should reject Davis at the ballot box after he voted to cover up the deadly January 6th insurrection, writing: “Why Davis opted to side with the extremists is worthy of a separate inquiry — by Illinois voters the next time he runs for office.”
-
Opposing a middle-class tax cut for Illinois families by voting against the Child Tax Credit — critical relief reaching nearly 90% of families nationwide that has already helped working Illinoisans cover the costs of childcare, prepare for the back-to-school season, and get parents back in the workforce, helping families make ends meet.
-
Joining his GOP bosses in voting against the American Rescue Plan, a widely popular investment in Illinois and America’s recovery from the COVID pandemic that has helped to get shots into arms, dollars into pockets, and children safely back into schools.
-
Voting against the bipartisan PFAS Action Act — legislation that would improve national drinking water standards and protect Americans, military bases, and the environment from harmful forever chemicals known as PFAS.
“Rodney Davis will have a tough time explaining to his constituents back home why his out-of-touch record includes opposing a middle-class tax cut for Illinois families, critical COVID-19 relief for workers and small businesses, and finding the truth about the deadly January 6 attack on our democracy,” said DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “Today’s announcement is just the latest sign of what Illinois voters already know: the writing is on the wall for vulnerable Rodney Davis.”
