Young Keeps Bragging About Bipartisan Highway Bill That He Tried To Derail

If Young got his way, there would be no Highway Bill. Period.

Congressman David Young is clearly banking on Iowans not knowing that he was one of only 64 members of Congress – and the ONLY member of the Iowa delegation – to vote against the widely bipartisan Highway Bill. Young’s vote against infrastructure investments has been put under further scrutiny after a new report found that Iowa leads the entire nation (5,025) in structurally deficient bridges. A full 18% of Iowa’s major urban roads are in poor condition.

Despite his attempts to derail the bill, Young is shamelessly trying to take credit:

How nice it is now to have a five-year Highway Bill.” – Monday on WHO radio

Congress finally did a five year highway bill…” – Wednesday on KMA radio

We did a five-year transportation road bill finally.” – Wednesday on KCSI radio

“The bottom line is that if Congressman Young got his way there would be no bipartisan Highway Bill and Iowa’s roads and bridges would suffer as a result,” said DCCC Spokesman Tyler Law. “But it’s really offensive that he would hit the radio circuit bragging about something he tried to derail. Young may be a magician, but he can’t hide the fact that this is about the most Washington insider move imaginable.”

When Young voted against the bipartisan, commonsense bill he complained about how the bill was passed. Not so fast, magician

SHOT: “But this process, of combining completely unrelated legislation in order to push it through Congress, has to stop. I oppose this practice and I’m not alone, home in Iowa, folks are sick and tired of this ‘Washington business as usual’ approach.” [David Young Press Release, 11/05/15]
