Your Morning Reminder: GOP Rep. David Schweikert Voted Against Millions in State & Local Aid for AZ-06

Schweikert Once Again Put Blind Party Loyalty Over His Constituents

The White House announced this week that $350 billion in aid as part of the overwhelmingly popular American Rescue Plan will begin to flow to state and local governments – no thanks to Rep. David Schweikert.

If Rep. Schweikert had his way, communities across AZ-06 would have lost out on more than $871 million in funding. Including:

  •  $871,239,088.00 in Maricopa County

This critical funding will be a lifeline for state and local governments as they continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic by getting shots in arms, people back to work, and children safely back in schools. Here are some of the ways state and local governments can use these relief funds that, if Rep. David Schweikert had his way, AZ-06 communities wouldn’t be getting:

  • Vaccine distribution, contact tracing, and COVID-19 testing to continue to decrease spread of the virus and bring the pandemic under control
  • Support for small businesses, laid-off workers, and families of COVID-19 victims
  • Continuity of essential public services, such as local police departments and emergency response services
  • Needed upgrades to critical infrastructure, including water, sewer, and broadband systems
    • Support for communities hit hardest by the pandemic to address health, educational, and housing disparities

Help is on the way to families across Az-06. Just don’t thank Rep. David Schweikert.

“Thanks to Democrats and the American Rescue Plan, more help is on the way to communities in AZ-06 – despite Rep. David Schweikert’s best efforts to block it,” said DCCC spokesperson Johanna Warshaw. “Rep.  Schweikert put politics over his own community and deserves absolutely zero credit for the much-needed relief headed to families, small businesses, and local governments in Arizona.”
