While Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn claim to support access to fertility treatments, the truth is they have supported legislation that would threaten IVF access and have refused to sign onto a bill that would actually protect it.
Washington Post: The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee recently targeted Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa) and Zachary Nunn (R-Iowa), who both represent swing districts, for declining to sign on to legislation protecting fertility treatments after the Iowa House passed a bill that criminalizes the death of “an unborn person.”
Miller-Meeks did not respond to a request for comment, and a spokesperson for Nunn passed along a general statement of support for IVF but did not directly address whether the congressman supports the legislation passed in the Iowa House…
Unfortunately for Miller-Meeks and Nunn, they can’t hide from their record. In the state legislature, they voted for a bill that would jeopardize Iowa women’s access to abortion, birth control, and IVF – nearly identical to the Iowa House bill restricting IVF that passed last week.
In Congress, Miller-Meeks co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act, a total national abortion ban that would also essentially ban IVF access.
Now, they’re both refusing to support legislation that would guarantee the right to IVF. Miller-Meeks even tried to distract Iowans by signing onto a “useless” resolution that actually does nothing to protect fertility treatments.
DCCC Spokesperson Mallory Payne:
“Per usual, Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn are working overtime to mislead Iowans on their dangerous records attacking reproductive freedoms. They’ve been laying the groundwork to jeopardize IVF for years, and voters will hold them both accountable for trying to decide if, when, and how they should start a family.”
