While Mariannette Miller-Meeks claims to support access to fertility treatments, the truth is she’s repeatedly supported legislation that would threaten IVF access and has refused to sign onto a bill that would actually protect it.
Washington Post: The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee recently targeted Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa) and Zachary Nunn (R-Iowa), who both represent swing districts, for declining to sign on to legislation protecting fertility treatments after the Iowa House passed a bill that criminalizes the death of “an unborn person.”
Miller-Meeks did not respond to a request for comment…
Unfortunately for Miller-Meeks, she can’t hide from her record. In the state legislature, Miller-Meeks voted for a bill that would jeopardize Iowa women’s access to abortion, birth control, and IVF – which is nearly identical to the Iowa House bill restricting IVF that passed last week.
In Congress, she co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act, a total national abortion ban that would also essentially ban IVF access.
And instead of supporting legislation that guarantees the right to IVF, Miller-Meeks signed onto a “useless” resolution that actually does nothing to protect fertility treatments.
DCCC Spokesperson Mallory Payne:
“Per usual, Mariannette Miller-Meeks is working overtime to mislead Iowans on her dangerous record attacking reproductive freedoms. Miller-Meeks has been laying the groundwork to jeopardize IVF for years, and voters will hold her accountable for trying to decide if, when, and how they should start a family.”
