Yvette Herrell Happy to Take Credit for ‘Bipartisanship’ While Voting to Shut Down Government, Risk Americans’ Health and Pay

Despite her lip service to bipartisanship, Democrats fund government and vital aid for New Mexicans with no help from Herrell

Despite GOP leaders whipping against the resolution, the House passed a continuing resolution to keep the government open, preventing a laundry list of problems for American families.

Yvette Herrell was happy to claim credit for $2.5 billion in the essential aid supporting communities affected by the Hermit’s Peak-Calf Canyon fire included in the package, despite her “no” vote.

Had Yvette Herrell successfully shut down the government:

  • Government programs that issue tax refunds and guarantee children are fed would be at risk

  • New applications for Social Security and Medicare mightwould not be processed for America’s seniors

  • FEMA’s ability to respond to emergencies like Hurricane Ian could be hindered

  • Hundreds of thousandsMillions of federal employees would be put on unpaid furlough

  • New Mexicans devastated by a historic wildfire caused by the federal government would be denied billions in needed aid.

Not only did Herrell vote against funding the government – she has a long track record of voting against bipartisan legislation that would protect our democracy, bring good-paying jobs to New Mexico, and protect American children. Meanwhile, she has been more than happy to claim credit for the historic investments Democrats fought for.

“Yvette Herrell admits that New Mexicans affected by the largest fire in the state’s history deserved federal relief, but she couldn’t find the courage to stand up and vote for this crucial aid,” said DCCC spokesperson Maddy Mundy. “The residents of New Mexico’s 2nd district deserve a representative who will be honest with them at home while fighting for them in Washington. It’s easy to take credit, but when it matters, Herrell can’t be trusted to protect New Mexico families.”
