Yesterday, House Democrats passed the Respect for Marriage Act to protect marriage equality, following the Supreme Court’s demonstrated willingness to throw away precedent and Justice Clarence Thomas’ threat to overturn Americans’ right to marry whomever they love.
Make no mistake: this vote shows the threat Yvette Herrell poses to the freedoms so many have fought for.
This isn’t the first time Herrell voted against protecting individual liberties and preventing discrimination. Last year, she voted against the Equality Act, legislation that would ban discrimination against people based on sexual orientation.
DCCC spokesperson Maddy Mundy:
“Yvette Herrell won’t stop at ripping away a woman’s right to make personal reproductive decisions. She wants to rip away an individual’s right to marry whom they love. Herrell’s dangerous, backwards views do not belong in New Mexico.”
