Zach Nunn Prefers Iowa Families Go Hungry, Votes for Extremist Cuts to Vital Food Assistance Program in Exchange for Tax Breaks for Billionaires

Last night, Zach Nunn voted to slash funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that helps feed thousands of children across Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District. The Republican bill would cut nearly $300 billion from the program relied on by over 31,000 households in Nunn’s district, over 47% of which have children.

Nunn’s vote also threatens the livelihoods of Iowa farmers who depend on SNAP purchases from places like farmers’ markets, school districts, and grocery stores.

Sitting on the House Agriculture Committee, Zach Nunn provided a critical vote for extremist House Republicans as they seek to pass their enormous tax breaks for the wealthy on the backs of everyday Iowans.

DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“While Zach Nunn pretends to care about Iowa’s families and farmers, the only people he’s really fighting for are the ultra-wealthy. This bill will rip food off the tables of his district’s most vulnerable children and take money directly out of farmers’ pockets so he can give a tax cut to billionaires – Nunn’s vote is a direct betrayal of the very people he vowed to protect and Iowa’s 3rd won’t forget it.”
