Less than a month ago, Congressman Lee Zeldin voted against a bipartisan $19 billion disaster relief bill that would help thousands of families that lost their livelihood due to recent natural disasters like flooding, wildfires, and hurricanes.
While the package overwhelmingly passed both the House and the Senate with bipartisan support, Washington Republicans led by Congressman Chip Roy spent the last few weeks delaying the funding.
Following intense public outcry, Congressman Zeldin made a last minute attempt to cover up his opposition to disaster relief, trying desperately to run from his real record of voting to deny funding to millions of Americans who have been waiting months for much-needed relief.
“No cover up attempt can change the fact that Congressman Zeldin chose to vote against providing relief to the thousands of Americans who lost everything in floods, hurricanes, wildfires or other recent natural disasters,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “Not only that, but Zeldin stood silently by while his fellow Washington Republicans spent the last three weeks holding up the funding. That’s shameful, and New Yorkers deserve better.”
