Zeldin: Trump’s Attacks on Republican Women Don’t Make Me ‘Uncomfortable’

Zeldin says he thinks Paul Ryan will endorse Donald Trump

No-Show Congressman Lee Zeldin is already starting to feel the heat as a cable TV surrogate for Donald Trump.

Yesterday on CNN, Zeldin said that he wasn’t “uncomfortable” with Trump’s recent insults toward Republican New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez, the nation’s first and only Latina governor.

Zeldin continued later to warn Republicans that they need to jump on the Trump train, or else.

“Instead of standing up to Donald Trump’s insults towards women – particularly Republican women – No-Show Congressman Lee Zeldin chooses to defend Trump’s attacks,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “As Zeldin continues to defend Trump’s insults towards women and dangerous views that make our country less safe, he makes it abundantly clear to Long Island voters that he and Trump are one in the same.”

As Zeldin defends Trump’s insults towards women on TV, Trump’s favorability is plunging among women – particularly Republican women – whom Zeldin will need to cross the finish line this November.
A Gallup poll in April showed that Trump’s popularity is plunging to all-time lows, with 7 out of 10 women holding unfavorable views of him. According to a Pew poll this spring, only 38% of Republican women support Trump.

Host [:58]: But he’s [Trump] saying stuff in this case about Republican elected officials like Susana Martinez. Does it bother you? Make you uncomfortable when you hear him do that?

Zeldin: I don’t think so because you can stand your own ground.

There are people who are supporting Donald Trump who don’t agree with him on everything that he says. If you do not want to support Donald Trump for president, be willing to articulate that position, understanding that ultimately, the decisions between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton at this point.

So holding out hope for this other Republican to emerge to be the next president, it’s not going to happen.

Host [3:00]: Will you be disappointed if Paul Ryan doesn’t endorse Donald Trump?
