As Zika Reaches New Jersey, Scott Garrett Needs to Explain Why He Voted Against Fully Funding Zika Prevention Efforts

As the Zika outbreak continues – notably today in New Jersey – posing a massive public health threat, Tea Party Congressman Scott Garrett needs to explain why he voted six times to block consideration of fully funding our response to this crisis.

While the CDC and President Obama have requested $1.9 billion in emergency funds, House Republicans – including Congressman Scott Garrett – pushed to provide about one third of that amount.

USA Today recently editorialized against House Republicans’ failure to competently address the dangerous public health threat.

“With mosquito season approaching and as Zika spreads into Congressman Scott Garrett’s back yard, he needs to explain why he left town last week without fully funding the Centers for Disease Control’s efforts to fight this massive public health threat,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC.
