| Democrats have gained their strongest lead in the NBC News generic ballot since 2018, up 8 points over Republicans just a year out from the midterm elections.
“That 8 point level is typically what you would find for a party that is poised for a big midterm election,” said NBC News Chief Data Analyst Steve Kornacki. “That’s the kind of lead Democrats had when they swept to power in Trump’s first term.”
Republicans, meanwhile, are in the gutter, largely due to Donald Trump’s weak numbers and the public souring on their countless broken promises.
Donald Trump is underwater on pocketbook issues. The NBC poll reveals that large majorities of the public say Trump is falling short of their expectations on the economy (63%), looking out for the middle class (65%), and inflation and the cost of living (66%). Even worse for House Republicans, 61% of respondents said the country is headed in the wrong track under Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans, up 7% since March.
