During last night’s debate in New York’s 17th Congressional District, career political operative Mike Lawler blatantly
lied to voters about his record of voting with Donald Trump 100% of the time: gutting health care to give tax breaks to billionaires, voting six times for
Trump’s reckless war in Iran that’s hiking prices at the pump, and protecting his
cost-spiking tariffs driving up the cost of everything from heating oil to groceries.
Fortunately, Army Combat Veteran Cait Conley was there to ensure Lying Lawler couldn’t hide from his disastrous record in real time.Â
Take a look at the debate’s top six moments:
On Lawler’s record of rubberstamping Trump’s agenda:
Conley: “If you want another number: 100% of the time is VoteHub.com and that is what they find Mike Lawler’s voting record with Donald Trump to be. And what we have seen out of my opponent, despite the lip service, is that every time it has mattered, whether it was the tariffs, the war in Iran, health care cuts, where was Mike Lawler? Standing side by side with Donald Trump, voting with him even when it harmed the Hudson Valley.”
On tariffs:
Conley: “[These are] tariffs my opponent voted for EIGHT times. And when you add up all the harm Mike Lawler has done to Hudson Valley families, the total goes far higher than just the tariffs. When you add up health care, utilities on top of all this – gas -, an average household in the Hudson Valley in 2026 is going to pay nearly $9,200 because of Mike Lawler’s loyalty to the Trump agenda.”
On the cost of living:
Conley: “Man, the struggle for him to answer a question is real tonight. When it comes to grocery prices, we are seeing them grow because of the impacts of the tariffs. Over the last two years, the average Hudson Valley household is paying nearly $4,200 more for the same goods now than before the tariffs, and we see that in groceries. I just told you, coffee is up 48%, beef 25%. We need to undo the reckless tariffs my opponent has voted for eight times.”
On the Iran war:
Conley: “My opponent, instead of trying to hold this administration and Hegseth more accountable, has done the exact opposite and just continued to give Donald Trump a green light with zero accountability, voting six times for this war, even as it jacks up gas prices.”
Meanwhile, Lawler called the war in Iran a “righteous decision” AGAIN.
On AI and data centers:
Conley: “He is looking out for data center developers. You can see this – a provision of the One Big Ugly Bill that he doesn’t like to talk about and he’s going to try to spin, is that there were $80 billion in tax breaks for data center developers.”
“When you look at Mike and his campaign, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been pumped in from big tech. He is absolutely fighting for someone, but it’s not us. It’s them.”
“[on her service and work] I am proud to continue to serve this country in that way. I understand why my opponent, whose whole combat experience starts and ends on Twitter, may not understand the importance of that work.”
On sexual assault:
“I’ve been disappointed with my opponent, who fails to call out the abuses by Max Miller, a domestic abuser whose own father-in-law, a Republican sitting senator in Ohio, has called him unfit and he should be removed from Congress, but instead of doing that, my opponent defended Max Miller and blamed the abuse on his ex-wife. That is unacceptable.”
“I do not need you to mansplain to me what domestic abuse and sexual assault against women is, and the appropriate response. Don’t start, sit over there.”
