New polling shows Army veteran and CO-05 candidate Jessica Killin statistically tied with vulnerable Republican Jeff Crank, 44 to 45%. Described by the Colorado Sun as “likely a stronger candidate than the party has ever had” in CO-05, Killin surpasses Crank after voters hear balanced profiles on both candidates.
The poll comes as Killin continues to build momentum across the district, outraising Crank every single quarter since she’s been in the race as voters sour on his reckless agenda of raising costs and gutting health care. Killin also has more cash on hand than Crank and is competing in the fastest-trending Democratic district in the country.

Colorado Sun: Voters in Colorado Springs’ congressional district may elect a Democrat for the first time, poll shows
- Forty-five percent of those polled said they would support Crank while 44% said they would back Killin.
- The poll was conducted… [by a] firm with a strong track record of predicting the outcome of races in Colorado.
- The results are the latest indication the 5th District may be in play for Democrats this year, both because of demographic shifts in the Colorado Springs area, long a Republican stronghold, and because of Killin.
- [Killin has] already shown that she’s likely a stronger candidate than the party has ever had before.
- Killin’s campaign raised $3.1 million… By comparison, Crank, who is running for his second term, raised about $1.8 million for his reelection bid.
- The latest poll indicates Killin’s position in the race can be explained by voters getting more familiar with her and because President Donald Trump is disliked by the district’s voters, particularly unaffiliated voters.
- Democrats have been doing increasingly well in El Paso County in recent years.
- The best sign for Democrats in the district is how Gov. Jared Polis has fared in recent election cycles. He lost his first gubernatorial campaign in El Paso County in 2018 by 17 percentage points. In 2022, he lost it by just 4 points.
