🚨 RATINGS CHANGE: Cook Political Report Shifts KY-06 to TOSS UP As Dembo Continues to Surge

COOK POLITICAL REPORT: “A perfect storm appears to be brewing for Democrats in Kentucky’s 6th District”

BREAKING: Zach Dembo is on the march.

Non-partisan race rater Cook Political Report just shifted their rating of Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District to Toss Up – signaling that the race is a true jump ball as momentum continues to build behind Dembo’s campaign.

It’s now the third time that Cook has shifted the race in Dembo’s direction since the start of the cycle, demonstrating the remarkable campaign he has run and the weakness of his opponent Ralph Alvarado.

Cook writes in part:

A perfect storm appears to be brewing for Democrats in Kentucky’s 6th District, where private polling shows a tied race, at best, for Republicans. Recent surveys commissioned by the DCCC and House Majority PAC even show Democrat Zach Dembo with a six-to-seven point lead over Republican Ralph Alvarado. Though this Lexington-based district voted for Trump by 16 points in 2024, it’s more elastic than other districts of a similar partisan lean — Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear carried the district by double digits in 2019 and 2023. Dembo, a former federal prosecutor and former aide to the governor, is in now an increasingly good position to flip this seat.

Alvarado’s greatest vulnerability is his association with unpopular former Gov. Matt Bevin, who picked him as his running mate in 2019. But the physician is also facing attack ads over his management of nursing homes fined for substandard care. Notably, No Going Back PAC is now airing positive ads touting Alvarado as a “champion” for seniors, a sign that the Democratic attacks have effectively damaged his image with voters […]

We’re moving this race… to Toss Up. This is one of the first districts where we could see results on Election Day, since Kentucky’s polls close at 6 p.m. ET. If Dembo is winning this race, Republicans are in for a rough night.

DCCC Spokesperson Eli Cousin:
“Things keep going from bad to worse for Ralph Alvarado. The more that Central Kentuckians learn about his record of corruption and his ties to disgraced former Governor Matt Bevin, the more turned off they get. The wind is at ninth-generation Kentuckian Zach Dembo’s back, and he’s in position to flip this seat in November.”
