A new report from the UNC Cecil G. Sheps Center explains how the House-passed Big, Ugly Bill risks the closure of more than 300 rural hospitals across the U.S.
This comes as Senate Republicans released updated text of their Big, Ugly Bill that proposes even larger Medicaid cuts, further endangering America’s hospitals and people’s access to care. The move has prompted the American Hospital Association to warn Senate Republicans that their proposed changes would be “harmful” and will force rural hospitals to close.
The American Hospital Association also found that the cuts from the Big, Ugly Bill will rip away health care coverage for 1.8 million people living in rural communities.
This week, House Democrats are participating in a “Save Our Hospitals” Week of Action to highlight the devastating impact of the GOP Tax Scam on America’s hospitals.
DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Vulnerable House Republicans voted to shutter hospitals in their districts and across America to pay for massive tax breaks for their billionaire donors. These extremists who pretend to be moderate back home will be held accountable for their devastating vote.”
REMINDER: The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates the GOP Tax Scam would result in 16 million people uninsured by gutting Medicaid and failing to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. In addition, nearly 24 million people will see their monthly health care costs increase as a result. |
