🚨 STRIKE TWO: Watchdogs Demand FEC Investigation Into Mike Lawler’s Lincoln Day Fundraiser Antics

Lawler’s second campaign finance scandal in 48 hours has the vulnerable Republican facing formal calls for a federal probe

Less than 24 hours after POLITICO exposed Mike Lawler for funneling more than $720,000 from political and advocacy organizations he personally directed into his own consulting firm, the vulnerable Hudson Valley Republican is now facing formal calls for a federal investigation into his conduct.

POLITICO reports that Battleground New York filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission after recent reporting revealed Lawler spoke and received donations at a Rockland County GOP fundraiser despite his status as a federal candidate.

Federal law strictly prohibits federal candidates like Lawler from soliciting non-federal contributions even when raising money for state or local committees. But that’s exactly what Lawler appears to have done.

Now, Lawler refuses to say whether he followed the rules about soliciting contributions.

DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Hudson Valley families are working harder than ever just to keep up — and their congressman is busy answering for a $720,000 self-dealing scheme one day and a federal investigation the next. NY-17 voters deserve a hell of a lot better, and in November, they’ll get it.”
