In Another Attempt to Mislead, Curbelo Blames Democrats for Republican Riders in Zika Funding Bill

Carlos Curbelo’s attempts to mislead voters and the media knows no bounds. This weekend, he blamed Democrats for the Republican policy riders that were attached to, and ultimately sank, a critical bill that would have fully funded the response to the growing Zika crisis in South Florida.

This wasn’t the first time Curbelo attempted to spin the truth about Zika. Curbelo first misled voters in May when he claimed to have supported President Obama’s full $1.9 billion request, despite the fact that he introduced a bill in April that provided no new emergency funding.

“Instead of challenging his own party to stop politicizing a response to the Zika health crisis, Curbelo continues to cynically mislead voters by blaming Democrats for the lack of Zika funding, when it’s his party in charge of the House of Representatives and his party that attached anti-women’s health riders that ultimately sank this vital bill,” said Jermaine House of the DCCC.  “With his latest response, Congressman Curbelo has once again shown that party loyalty is more important than actually finding a cure for Zika.  Even worse, Congressman Curbelo continues to prove he can’t be trusted to protect South Florida’s priorities over the wishes of his party leadership.”
