Today, Inside Elections became the latest non-partisan race rater to shift their rating of Virginia’s 5th Congressional District towards Tom Perriello.
Inside Elections writes: “Former Rep. Tom Perriello looks like he has a puncher’s chance to win in this difficult district… Perriello is the rare Democratic candidate with a spending advantage over McGuire, who was recruited to run for Congress by Trump but hasn’t received any support from the president’s super PACs yet.”
The ratings change comes just days after Cook Political Report also shifted their rating for VA-05 Perriello, and as a new poll shows the race is locked in a dead heat.
Early voting numbers in VA-05 are flashing major warning signs for McGuire. One analyst said that “early voting could hardly look better for Perriello.”
DCCC Spokesperson Eli Cousin:
“Virginians are sick and tired of corrupt politicians like John McGuire looking out for themselves while costs soar for everybody else. Tom Perriello has the momentum in this race and continues to surge heading into November.”
