Chairman Emmer and GOP Leadership Not Living Up To Their Titles
A Member and longtime donor to the National Republican Congressional Committee [NRCC] is drawing national headlines, and not just for his 60-count criminal indictment for allegations of wire fraud and misusing campaign funds that have hounded him for the past year and caused him to lose all legislative relevance in Congress.
In an interview last week with the podcast Zero Blog Thirty, Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-Indicted) bragged about how he’d “killed probably hundreds of civilians,” including “women and children, if there were any left in the city.” This followed comments where Hunter defended an accused war criminal by saying that he himself was guilty of the same behavior and that he had not only shot civilians but posed with dead combatants.
While Hunter’s comments have received national attention, not one of his Republican Congressional colleagues have spoken up, and the NRCC has stood by silently as they hold on to every cent that Congressman Hunter has given, to the tune of nearly $220,000 since Hunter came to Congress.
“Congressman Hunter has bragged about killing ‘probably hundreds of civilians,’ including ‘women and children,’ but for nearly $220,000 in donations to the NRCC, Chairman Emmer and the committee he controls will stand silently with him,” said DCCC Spokesperson Cole Leiter. “That’s an astounding failure of leadership, even for today’s Republican Party.”
