Does Ashley Hinson Stand with Drug Companies or Working Families on Lowering Prescription Drug Costs?

Bill co-sponsored by Rep. Abby Finkenauer empowers Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices and would save Americans at least $345 billion

Later today, the House of Representatives is set to vote on legislation co-sponsored by Rep. Abby Finkenauer that would lower the cost of prescription drugs for families across eastern Iowa. Specifically, the bill gives Medicare the power to negotiate with drug companies for lower prescription drug prices and reverse unjustified price gouging on thousands of medications like insulin.

Now, Ashley Hinson – who personally has thousands of dollars invested in drug companies — needs to tell Iowans whether she would join Finkenauer in supporting this measure to lower costs for hardworking families.

According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the bill would lower domestic drug prices and save at least $345 billion for the American people. This legislation will save a family of four approximately $1,920 per year. In IA-01 specifically, there are 126,875 people enrolled in a Medicare Part D plan and 574,173 people enrolled in private health insurance – all of whom would benefit from the passage of this legislation.

“There is no question that seniors and working families desperately need relief from out of control drug prices. While Rep. Abby Finkenauer is fighting for common-sense solutions to bring down costs, Iowans deserve to know if Hinson would do the same – or whether she would continue to stand with the drug manufacturers she’s invested in,” said DCCC Spokesperson Brooke Goren.
