Despite unprecedented efforts to rig the political system in Republicans’ favor, Democrats are competing and winning in districts that Donald Trump carried, some by 15 points or more. These races will determine whether Republicans are rewarded for their attacks on democracy or held accountable by voters they tried to disenfranchise.
The FAFO Fund directs resources to 15 Democratic candidates running in Trump districts where polling shows strong opportunities to expand our soon-to-be Democratic majority.
It’s clear Democrats have the wind at their backs:
- In special elections this cycle, Democrats have overperformed by 13% – by 17% in congressional special elections – and have flipped 30 state legislative seats across the country.
- In top-of-the-ticket contested primaries in House battleground states, Democratic voter participation outpaced Republican turnout by over 3.5 million votes. Since 2006, the party with the edge in primary turnout has gone on to win the House.
- And Democrats are competitive in races that have historically been GOP strongholds, forcing Republicans to spend big to salvage incumbents they once thought were safe.
DCCC Executive Director Julie Merz:
“It turns out that defunding health care, ripping food off of hardworking families’ tables, raising costs across the board, and starting endless foreign wars isn’t popular with voters. As we’ve warned from the beginning when Trump declared he deserved five more seats in Texas, if Republicans wanted to f*** around, they were going to find out. This fund will help ensure that.”
