In response to the announcement that Rep. Martha McSally is running for U.S. Senate and opening up one of the most competitive, Republican-held House seats in the country, DCCC spokeswoman Rachel Irwin released the following statement:
“Congresswoman McSally has proven one thing: she’ll do whatever it takes to make the establishment happy from voting with Paul Ryan 94 percent of the time to answering Mitch McConnell’s call to run for Senate. Washington Republicans’ deeply unpopular agenda to rip away healthcare and raise taxes on the middle class has energized Arizonans in a district that Hillary Clinton won and is trending in Democrats’ favor.
“McSally’s vacancy only enhances our chances of taking back this seat and electing a proven leader like former Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, who’s been a champion for Arizona families in Congress and as a prosecutor.”
